Require opening dates and accessible alternatives for Dallas Road washrooms

An accessible waterfront trip starts before you leave home. Two replacement facilities were reported complete in August. Current, site-by-site information would make planning easier.

Here’s what matters.

  • Holland Point and southeast Beacon Hill replacements were reported complete in August.
  • Ross Bay’s present physical status has not been independently inspected for this report.
  • The petition asks for dated opening and closure details, plus accessible alternatives and routes.
01

A small detail that can decide a whole outing

Before a waterfront walk, some people check the weather. Others also need to know whether there’s an accessible washroom along the way. Knowing what’s open—and how to reach an alternative—can make the difference between going out and staying home.

Victoria selected three Dallas Road washroom facilities for replacement after they received the lowest accessibility scores in a 2022 audit, according to the project’s published account. Victoria Buzz reported on August 28, 2026 that replacements at Holland Point and southeast Beacon Hill were complete, with Ross Bay expected later in the year.

The City’s project page describes the replacement programme as underway. That broad label is useful background, but it does not by itself provide a dated status for each location. We have not physically inspected Ross Bay today, so this article does not claim work there is stalled or that its anticipated date has been missed.

02

An accessible building needs usable information

People deciding whether they can make a waterfront trip need practical information before they leave. Which facility is open? Is an accessible alternative available during a closure? Where is it, and what route reaches it? A project description and a current access update serve different purposes.

Victoria already has public washroom map data, including operating-hours fields. The request is not to build a second map from scratch. It is to connect existing information with dated closure, accessibility and replacement-status details so residents can plan with confidence. If an opening forecast changes, the update should show when it was checked rather than leave readers to infer progress from an old news item.

03

Tell people what they can use today

The petition asks Victoria City Council and the staff responsible for parks and facilities to update the project page with a dated status for all three sites, the current Ross Bay completion forecast and accessible alternatives during any closure. Once a replacement opens, the page should record the opening and an accessibility check.

This is a request for current public information. It is not a claim that all three facilities remain unfinished, that a closure is unjustified, or that every accessibility feature is independently verified. We will link any equivalent current update brought to our attention and record the City’s response on the petition timeline.

What our reporting can—and can’t—establish

Research reviewed October 21, 2026. Ross Bay’s current physical state not independently inspected. Do not claim project stalled or all three unbuilt. Existing washroom map has operating-hours fields.
