EllisDon and Parkin alliance enters final stages at Quw’utsun Valley Hospital
The Province’s latest cited milestone separates construction completion in 2026 from the planned patient opening in 2027.
The Province reported on May 29 that construction of Quw’utsun Valley Hospital / Quw’utsun Hulitun-ew’t-hw was 90% complete. Its update anticipated finishing construction by the end of 2026 and opening for patient care in mid-2027.
The $1.4-billion, 204-bed project is being delivered by the Cowichan District Hospital Nuts’a’maat Alliance. Named participants include Island Health, EllisDon, Parkin Architects, BC Infrastructure Benefits and Infrastructure BC.
The May update described patient elevators as complete, with work advancing on lower floors, landscaping, paving and water systems. Equipment installation, staff training and site orientation are among the steps between construction completion and opening.
That distinction matters when reading project schedules: a substantially finished building is not automatically an operating hospital. This report uses the May milestone as its dated baseline; it does not imply a fresh September measurement of completion.
