AECOM and Knappett Industries named in Departure Bay forcemain authorization
An RDN decision establishes the delivery team and distinguishes base authorization from a conditional expanded amount.
A Regional District of Nanaimo decision released January 2, 2026 names Knappett Industries and AECOM for detailed design and construction of the Departure Bay Forcemain Twinning project.
The October 28, 2025 board decision authorized a base $91,132,344 in contracts and purchase orders, excluding GST. It also allowed a maximum of $107,491,278, conditional on City of Nanaimo approval of a cost-sharing agreement. Those figures describe authorization under that decision; they should not be presented as a newly awarded September contract or a final project expenditure.
Nanaimo’s 2026 engineering business plan describes coordination of utility and road upgrades along the forcemain route and a complex, multi-year construction programme.
For civil contractors, suppliers and affected businesses, the practical next step is to follow current owner-issued construction and traffic notices. The authorization record establishes participants and financial boundaries, not today’s work-zone locations or open procurement packages.
